Originally named St. John's Island, Prince Edward Island didn't get its name till 1799. The Island is Canada's smallest province, but is also the most densely populated with 24 people per square kilometer connected to mainland New Brunswick by the worlds longest bridge over ice covered water. Prince Edward Island is also known as "The Birthplace of Confederation" however it didn't  join confederation till July 1, 1873. Prince Edward Island is also called the "Garden of the Gulf" referring to the beautiful scenery and rich agricultural soil, red from the high iron content, and making it world famous.
